NRA Get Out the Vote Campaign Features Proponents of Political Violence
"Anyone who has thought about it realizes that liberty and equality are antithetical concepts ... Equality is biologically impossible, and liberty is only obtainable in homogeneous populations very thinly spread." - Former NRA Board Member (and ardent insurrectionist) Jeff Cooper
Last week, the National Rifle Association (NRA) launched its "Trigger the Vote" campaign, a superficially non-partisan get-out-the vote effort. The ad campaign features two men who sit on the organization's Board of Directors: aging hard-rocker Ted Nugent and actor R. Lee Ermey of "Full Metal Jacket" fame; and NRA celebrity spokesman and martial artist/actor Chuck Norris. Both

Bill would allow guns in more public places
A Cherokee County lawmaker wants to make it legal for properly permitted gun owners to carry guns in places like churches, college campuses, bars and even the state Capitol.
Republican state Rep. Sean Jerguson helped introduce a bill that would allow those over 21, with proper background checks and permits, to carry concealed firearms in places now banned by state law. He believes the decision to allow guns on premises should be up to private property owners.
"It's a Second Amendment issue," said Jerguson. "And balancing the Second Amendment with the individual's right to

Gun owners hope to win the right to carry concealed weapons
Chuck Michel's strategy for crime-fighting rests on the element of surprise: Keep the bad guys guessing who's armed and who's not.
"If 5% of the ducks could shoot back, you're not going to go duck hunting," said the Long Beach lawyer representing many Californians denied concealed weapons permits and, in his view, their constitutional right to self-defense.
For decades, that argument has fallen flat in the courtroom. Judges have routinely held that denying permits to carry loaded firearms in public does not infringe on gun owners' right to keep and bear arms.
But now, some gun owners hope that

State aims for rapid-fire gun background checks
An attempt to chip away at Virginia's background-check system for gun buyers failed in this year's General Assembly session, but lawmakers are looking to increase spending to make that system move more quickly.
Many gun-rights advocates complain that the once-rapid checks now move so slowly during peak times that they can halt legal gun transactions, costing dealers sales and the state tax revenue. They want to scrap the state checks in favor of a federal system.
The Virginia checks, carried out by the State Police, consider information that the federal checks do not, including certain juvenile criminal records

orders.

Year of insanity
"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition," is a patriotic song that was written following the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Given the recent actions of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, one might think it was the state song.
After all, while the governor was proposing to cut state funding for education and poverty programs, the Legislature felt the need to pass House Resolution 535, declaring this the "Year of the Bible," and to introduce legislation that would punish municipalities that require gun owners to report lost or stolen weapons by awarding triple damages in court cases.

Michigan Tops List For Guns Missing From Licensed Shops
Monday's shooting death of a nine month-old baby is forcing the community to look at the causes for all this recent violence.
We know guns are part of the problem - especially how easily they are falling into the the wrong hands.
According to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Michigan ranks fifth in the nation for the number of guns "missing" from licensed gun shops. We're talking about more than 3,000 weapons.
These guns have no record of sale making them virtually untraceable by authorities.
Nationwide, more than 62,000 guns were missing from the inventories of licensed gun

Guns on campus bill faces another hurdle
AUSTIN - Despite Texas' cowboy image and its reputation as a Second Amendment-friendly state, in recent legislative sessions a high-profile pro-gun bill hasn't made it to the finish line.
Now the fate of the proposal which would allow Texans with concealed gun permits to carry their firearms on college campuses faces an additional hurdle.
So far, it lacks an author and a sponsor who can convince their fellow legislators the bill is good for law-abiding citizens.
Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, the author of last year's bill, said if re-elected, he probably won't file a similar proposal when the

Boycott war brewing on the grounds of Starbucks' gun policy
Those who prefer to drink their lattes packing protection on their hip turned out at Starbucks across the country on the first day of a "buycott" organized by gun owners _ countering the Starbucks boycott called this month by the National Gun Victims Action Council.
The issue of Starbucks allowing gun owners to openly carry their weapons in states that have "open carry" laws has been simmering for years. The new boycott, which launched Tuesday, aims at persuading Starbucks to join a growing list of retail chains, including Peet's Coffee, California Pizza Kitchen and IKEA, which prohibit

A law that gun-rights advocates should be fighting to keep
In July 1993, a Virginia law took effect limiting the number of handguns an individual could purchase to one gun every 30 days. Not to one gun a year, or one gun a lifetime -- but one gun a month. The impact of this law on interstate gun trafficking was immediate, it was significant and it is impossible to refute. Prior to the law, Virginia gun dealers were the most important source of crime guns illegally trafficked along Interstate 95, also known as the "iron pipeline" from the Southeast to the states in the Northeast corridor.

Governor Bill Haslam wants narrower ‘guns in parking lots’ bill
NASHVILLE -- Gov. Bill Haslam and the Senate and House speakers want to narrow the scope of proposed legislation that lets workers keep guns in their vehicles on public and private employers' parking lots.
The National Rifle Association has dubbed the bill the "employee safe commute" act. The Tennessee Firearms Association also backs the legislation.
"The current bill that's out there we feel like is a little overly broad, and we'd like to see it addressed some more, which I think is in the process," said Haslam, a Republican.
Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, said the bill should have
